Our CIM tutors
Our tutors come from many different backgrounds and represent a variety of academic, commercial, organisational and cultural experiences. When we enrol you, we will consider all the information you give us so that we can allocate the most appropriate tutor(s) to you. Our tutors are:
Graham Bailey
Graham tutors on our Post-graduate Diploma courses. He is shy. We hope to be able to coax a biography out of him soon.
Paul Cowell
Paul tutors on our Certificate, Diploma, and Post-graduate Diploma courses. Paul’s qualifications include a BA, MSc (Marketing), MEd, and MCIM. He is a professional visiting lecturer and lectures on marketing management, consumer behaviour, corporate strategy, accountability, various CIM modules, and is a consultant to Cadbury and Coca-Cola.
Since leaving school Paul has always had a portfolio of jobs and enjoys the challenges that go with this type of working lifestyle.
All of his business interests have been marketing and/or communication related, but have also required him to think and act at a strategic level. This business expertise is reflected in the modules he teaches at a large number of institutions, including the Manchester School of Management.
As a tutor Paul is sure that he can guide students through their studies drawing on a combination of his practical experience and theoretical knowledge.
One further advantage Paul has which enables him to empathise with the student is that all of his qualifications were obtained through part-time study, including two by distance learning.
Tyrell Gillman
Tyrell tutors on our Certificate, Diploma, and Post-graduate Diploma courses.
Following over 30 years of marketing and general management, with a wide industrial and commercial background in both home and overseas markets, and with products ranging from consumables through to high value capital equipment, Tyrell acquired the major financial interest in a manufacturing engineering company with world-wide markets in 1987. To avoid conflicts with lecturing and consultancy commitments, Tyrell retired from industry in 1992 to concentrate full time on lecturing, research, and consultancy work, and commenced research for a Doctor of Philosophy in International Marketing which was conferred in 2001.
Tyrell devotes the main part of his activity to lecturing and managing distance learning students in the subject areas of management and marketing, with a specific interest in International Marketing Strategy. He is currently involved in research into the cultural differences which exist in Eastern and Western European markets and the factors which influence command and market economies. He was also one of the pioneer tutors when the UK’s National Extension College developed its Tutoring Online programme, and has spoken on UK BBC local radio and TV on small business training and survival issues.
Frank Rowett
Frank tutors on our Certificate, Diploma, and Post-graduate Diploma courses.
Frank has a wide business experience gained from four major companies (J. Lyons & Co., General Foods, Unilever and Northern Foods plc) where he held management positions in both Sales and Marketing.
Now an educator and consultant, he is able to bring the knowledge and experience he has gained to his students at all levels from BTEC, HND, HNC through degree and post-graduate qualifications. Frank teaches on all levels of the Chartered Institute of Marketing education scheme at York College in the UK, and has a keen involvement in distance education having been both a tutor and an examiner for the Open University. He is also a member of the European project team for the “Fenicia Programme” (other members are from Spain, Denmark and Norway). The project aims to produce an online teaching programme for marketing at Level 3 (equivalent to CIM’s Certificate programme). Outside of marketing, Frank’s interests include horticulture, music, rugby and cricket.
Kevin Tolson
Kevin tutors on our Certificate, Diploma, and Post-graduate Diploma courses.
Kevin has largely worked in business development and strategy and now leads, manages and has responsibility to grow two newly created business units for an energy utility. This involves utilising group resources to develop brands, culture, customer relationships, and product portfolios.
Kevin has an MBA from the University of Strathclyde and an economics degree from the University of Manchester.
Jeremy Woods
Jeremy tutors on our Diploma and Post-graduate Diploma courses.
Jeremy followed a career in the fashion industry, with management roles across retailing, public relations, and selecting/merchandising with Miss Selfridge Ltd and The Burton Group.
